WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A COUNSELLING SESSION?

During a counselling session you can generally expect a welcoming and safe environment, the session takes place in a private and comfortable setting. My aim as a counsellor initially would be to establish a rapport and build a trusting relationship and encourage you to talk about your thoughts, feelings and challenges. This would be met with active listening and empathy and open-ended questions to facilitate deeper exploration. Using therapeutic techniques and interventions to support your progress.  may offer alternative perspectives, challenge unhelpful thoughts or behaviours, and provide support and encouragement to foster your personal growth.

WHAT TYPE OF ISSUES CAN  I BRING TO COUNSELLING?

Counselling can address a wide range of personal, emotional, and mental health issues. Some common issues that can be addressed through counselling include: Anxiety, stress, depression, relationship difficulties, grief, loss, trauma, self-esteem, confidence issues, anger, substance abuse, addiction, eating disorders, body image concerns, life transitions, family, parenting issues, LGBTQ+, anything that is important to you.

WHAT THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES ARE USED IN PERSON-CENTRED COUNSELLING?

Rather than imposing specific techniques or interventions, the person-centered approach emphasises the core conditions of empathy, congruence (genuineness), and unconditional positive regard. These conditions foster a trusting and non-directive therapeutic relationship, allowing you to gain insight, develop self-awareness, and make autonomous choices that align with your values and goals.
